Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how personal data is processed when you visit this website (the "Site"). The controller under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Dorian Borovina (contact details below).

Hosting

The Site is a set of static pages delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). To deliver the pages and protect the Site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data of each request: your IP address, the requested page, the time, and the browser information your browser sends. Cloudflare may process this data outside the EU, including in the USA; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing addendum includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. I keep no logs of these requests myself. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in delivering the Site securely and reliably).

Visitor statistics

To learn which pages are read and how visitors find the Site, I measure visits with Umami, running on my own server at Hetzner in Germany. When a page is opened, a small script sends the following to that server: the page address and title, the page you came from (referrer), your browser's language, the screen size, the type of device, browser and operating system, and the country, region and city derived from your IP address.

• No cookies are set and nothing is stored in your browser. The script only checks whether the opt-out below is switched on.
• Your IP address is not stored. It is used only to derive the location and an anonymous visit identifier, calculated from the IP address and browser data with a random key that changes every month, so visits in different months cannot be linked.
• If your browser sends "Do Not Track", nothing is measured.
• The data is used only for aggregate statistics, is not shared with anyone and is deleted automatically after 24 months.

Settings stored in your browser

If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (key theme), and if you turn off statistics above, that choice is stored too (key umami.disabled). Both stay on your device, are not sent anywhere, and can be removed by clearing the Site's data in your browser.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 15–18, 20 and 21 GDPR). Because the statistics contain no IP addresses or names, I usually cannot link them to you. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the one for North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW).

Changes

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in practice or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.
